Beauty & Possibilities - My Photography Journey

Still tinkering with the settings of the Sony A6000 and today I wanted to learn more about the focus settings. Since I love taking pictures of my 2 dogs, I needed to learn the auto focus settings for moving object.... I set it to Continuos Focusing Mode which is AF-C  with the focus area being wide. I was still having a bit of a problem getting it to focus specifically on my dog's eyes.... This one focused more on Riley's nose...still cute if you ask me...of course I am a bit biased... What I actually had to do was to turn off the face recognition feature and turn on Center Lock-On Auto Focus.... There I was able to choose a specific point to focus on....this is better.... You can see that it is focused on the eyes and not the nose like the last picture Not too big of a difference I guess but, for me, it is important to be able to focus on the eyes....for more impact... So, it has been years since I've actually picked up a camera. Of course I have my cellphone camera but, it's just a common snapshot that I like to take. I just haven't been in the mood for any artsy shots. I lost my passion for photography. But lately, an ember has started to glow... And here I am now, new camera in hand and try to re-learn all the techniques from manyyyy ages ago... Well, first up, get used to the new cam....my hubby and I decided to do a shift from our favorite camera brand, Nikon to a mirrorless one...Sony. We would have loved to go with the A7 full frame camera...but it is currently out of our budget. So instead, we decided to buy the Sony A6000. We read and heard many good reveiws about it and this will be the camera I will use to get back into the photography groove.... My first step is to get used to the camera....I don't know why but I am sort of shying away from pressing the shutter to the camera. I have a fear that every picture I captur...

These themes keep getting better and better....and I'm always filled with endless ideas....perhaps MCP has become my muse!!! "Light & Color as my Muse"  Ever walk in an area and see a ray of light shinning down on something...anything? Light is no doubt a Muse that points you to look in its direction to see what amazing beauty is hiding just beyond. Take this small part of a rocky pile covered in vines and moss....All of a sudden there she (Light) was, basking on the rocks and amazing textures and colors came popping up, calling me to come close and take a picture. There's a lot of things I thought about using for this theme...the rustling wind outside, the turning of the electric fan in my room, my daily walk around the neighborhood...but I chose to go with our wall clock. It has a very subtle ticking that I barely notice. But, when it is deafeningly silent, I find comfort in the soft ticks I hear from the clock.... I am almost all caught up with the themes. I have the next 2 themes ready and just need to post them here on my blog.  So, this post is a catch up for week 3, Shades of Grey. I love taking sky pictures because of the beautiful colors. I decided, though, that this photo still looks great in black and white because of the brilliant sun. So here's my submission for the theme.... This was taken on January 31, 2011 at Villa Escudero. Taken with Samsung GT-I8000 (cellphone) F-stop f/2.8 Exposure time 1/16384 sec ISO-50 Edited with Picasa 3 - made black & white, adjusted tuning I also wanted to post a picture that my hubby took that also works with the Shades of Grey Theme....it's my sister-in-law's Dog (Zoey's) best friend...."Cat" (aka 'Ket")..... I'm still trying to convince hubby to join in with the photo challenges....

Week 2 has such a wonderful theme! I had a lot of songs in mind..."Like a Rolling Stone" by Dylan ..."Romeo & Juliet" by Dire Straits... and a few others were on my list. However, I was listening to the radio in the car and an oldies came on by Boyz II Men..."It's So Hard To Say Goodbye"...and I knew this was the song I wanted to do.... I thought about old pictures scattered on the floor showing memories of my mother and my family...that was the concept. I was sort of in a rush so I came up with a photo and edited it to focus mainly on the picture of my mom.... " How do I say goodbye to what we had?   The good times that made us laugh   Outweigh the bad.   I thought we'd get to see forever But forever's gone away   It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.  ......" While editing, I realized that the photo also works with another oldies song "The Way We Were" by Barbara Streisand.... ...
